Toot gameplay: a shielded boat among cargo ships, islands and coins

The game

Easy to steer, hard to survive.

Steer left or right with one thumb. Around you, ships move like real traffic, each in its own lane. The longer you sail, the faster and busier it gets. Slip past a ship to build a combo; get too greedy and you'll crash.

Keep an eye on your oil, too. It slowly runs out, so you need to pick up fresh barrels along the way. Choose your boat in the harbour: each has its own speed and handling, and completing runs unlocks new boats.

Power-ups

Six ways to stay afloat a little longer.

Shield

A protective bubble around your boat for ten seconds.

Magnet

Pulls nearby coins towards your boat.

Repel

Nearby ships move out of your way.

Double coins

Coins count double for a while.

Oil

Refills your tank. Run out of oil and your boat stops.

Energy

Fifteen seconds of sailing without using oil.

The process

An ocean that feels alive.

Most of the time went into the world itself. An endless game only stays fun when the water, weather and traffic keep feeling a little different.

01

Real waves

Boats move with the water

The ocean is made of Gerstner waves. Each boat reads the height and slope of the water beneath it and moves with the surface, putting every ship and your boat on the same sea.

02

Weather, day and night

An ever-changing sea

The environment changes as you sail: new island biomes, shifting weather with wind and waves, and a day-to-night transition that turns on your boat's lights. A curved world drops the horizon away for that classic endless-runner feel.

03

Traffic with a plan

Ships as agents

Each ship is a small agent that follows its lane and avoids others. A traffic manager keeps things fair: busy enough for tension, but always with a gap to slip through.

The interface

Wood, rope and a seagull.

The UI has a cheerful nautical style: wooden signs with rope and lifebuoys, and a seagull as the mascot. The dashboard at the bottom is your boat's wheelhouse, with a compass, oil gauge, speedometer in knots and a ship's horn. That's where the name comes from.

Awards

Rewarding skilful play.

Alongside your high score, you earn awards. Some reward persistence: sailing 100 to 1,000 nautical miles, or playing for half an hour or two hours in total. Others reward seamanship: 5,000 metres without a collision, squeezing between two obstacles, sailing straight for a minute, or making a sharp turn to port or starboard.
